Top 4 hotels in Lisbon
Amongst the sea of hotels in the Portuguese capital, we selected four great picks.
AS JANELAS VERDES
Part of the Hotéis Heritage, this characterful building is located in Santos / Lapa area, perfect for those who want to be near the buzz but in a more residential part of town dotted with plenty of tiled facades and washing lines on show, this is a romantic choice.
Rumour has it that famous Portuguese writer Eça de Queirós lived in this 18th century townhouse. Stepping into Janelas Verdes is a little like entering someone's residence. Lovely touches such as freshly baked pastéis de nata in the morning and a decanted bottle of Port to drink before bed time, according to the receptionist. We wouldn't dream of going against her piece of advice.
Perfect if you like History, Literature and are after a more authentic feel.
If you are after luxury, look no further. This sleek, ultra modern hotel is located in a top spot in the capital, two minutes from Terreiro do Paço. A top spa, a pillow menu, champagne for breakfast and a colour therapy bathroom are some of the delightful touches you can expect to find in the five star Corpo Santo. From their beautiful balconies you see the famous yellow trams pass by. Lots of small events happen late afternoon, if you are interested. All very chic and stylish.
Perfect if you like cool and minimalist.
Steps away from the luxurious Liberdade Avenue, PortoBay Marques exudes charm from the moment you enter the hotel until you discover the magical rooftop. The staff were very attentive and friendly, making sure we had all we need for a great stay. A stylish lobby with fiction and art books share space with a lovely bar for great cocktails. The rooms have beautiful views of Lisbon style buildings and be prepared to drag yourself out of the rooftop jacuzzi. A small pool, drinks, the view and the Lisbon sun. I told you so.
Perfect if you like lounging at the rooftop and cooling down in the pool.
This 50s building reconstructed from a devastating earthquake was inspired in the Lisbon buildings of the 18th century. Located in the bohemian area of Rossio, this hotel is inspired by the theatre scene of the 40s and 50s, a golden time for the arts in Lisbon and it celebrates Portuguese actor Vasco Santana. Theatre D. Maria II and Politema are nearby and give guests the artistic sense of joie de vivre of the place. Dotted with vintage objects O Artista is as charming as it sounds.
Perfect if you like all things bohemian.
