A very happy hour
When two friends were in town and suggested meeting up, I had one place in mind: The Coral Room.
Bloomsbury is one of those places in London where I wish I could live. Maybe just to experiment life in this literary corner of the capital, full of artistic and historical references. I also adore the squares where, undoubtedly, you will find a house with blue plaque indicating some true celebrity lived there.
So, when two friends suggested we should meet somewhere central in London, I took them to The Coral Room.
Right in the middle of Bloomsbury, minutes from Tottenham Court Road and the British Museum, this cocktail bar is as stylish as its pretty and very popular sister, The Dalloway Terrace.
Part of the Bloomsbury Hotel, the Coral Room offers an extensive list of interesting and delicious cocktails.
We were very well looked after and had some champagne and a selection of cocktails: the Rose Blossom, an elegantly presented drink made with Tanqueray, Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto, Orange Bitters, Elderflower Cordial and English Sparkling Wine decorated with a tiny rose that just made it so lovely.
For a more party style drink, we tried the Midtown Swizzle. Havana rum, East India Solera Sherry, Passion Fruit, Lime juice, Pineapple and English Sparkling Wine. Our third cocktail was the sweetest of all, but just irresistible. The Wiltshire Warrior had Ketel One, Lime Juice, Agave Nectar, Watermelon and English Sparkling Wine.
To me, a great bar offers wonderful drinks but also stylish interior. The Coral Room, as you can imagine, has all shades of warm orange, some red, some terracota tones as, obviously, the name suggests. It is warm, elegant and casual at the same time. Some bars have nicer corners, those little spots where everyone wants to sit because they look more inviting. Not here. Everywhere you go is gorgeous with some level of opulence but relaxing at the same time, a hard balance to get. I particularly enjoy sitting by the bar where so much happens and you can watch some brilliant cocktails being made with precision and a lot of flair.
Super friendly staff as well, something that is always expected but quite often and surprisingly absent in elegant and popular venues like this.
A great and stylish happy hour bar.
